Surface analysis tool: Environment Map

- [Instructor] Our next surface analysis tool is called the Environment Map. This command is both fun to see and, if used correctly, pretty powerful as well. The purpose is to visually evaluate surface smoothness using a reflected image. I'm going to zoom into some geometry down here, and these might be a better example of where it's not very useful, but we'll kind of get the hang of this command here really quickly. I'm going to go ahead and select all three of these guys right here with Shift to add. Our command we're studying right now is Analyze, Surface, Environment Map. Now, most installations of Rhino start with this image called Arches. And we can zoom in here. We can actually see what's going on. And the reason I say it's not very useful, this is the sphere, and here's a flat plane. We're not really studying the smoothness, because these are constantly curving.
