System requirements and supported hardware

- Let's talk a little bit about what you'll need to run Rhino 5 for Mac. Now of course, the most basic requirement you need an Apple Mac computer with an Intel processor, and that could either be a laptop or a desktop. And you'll want that Mac running OS X version 10.8.5, 10.9.5, or 10.10. And at the time of this recording, the OS X El Capitan public beta is not supported. Now ideally, you'll want your computer running at least eight gigabytes of RAM. Now a little bit less might still work, but you may notice things bogging down, running slowly, so eight or more is recommended. You'll need at least 600 megabytes of free disk space to install Rhino 5 for Mac, though of course you'll want extra for things like saving out files. Additionally, a separate graphics processor like an AMD or an NVIDIA card can speed up your workflow a lot. If you don't have it, it's not the end of the world, but things may run a bit more slowly. You'll also need an internet connection for download, installation and license validation. And last but not least, and I really can't stress this enough, get yourself a three-button mouse with a scroll wheel. A one-button mouse or the trackpad can work but those are a little bit trickier to get through the interface with and we'll cover some tips in later chapters for how to work with those tools, but again, three-button mouse with a scroll wheel is going to make your life so much easier working through Rhino 5 for Mac. Also if you use a 3D mouse like SpaceBall or SpaceNavigator or SpaceExplorer, just know that only the SpaceNavigator is supported at the time of this recording. So those are the basic requirements of what you'll need to install and run Rhino 5 for Mac.
