Working with algorithms

- [Instructor] In this video, I'd like to go over another basic idea that makes working in Grasshopper different than Rhino alone. And that is, working with algorithms. So, I've got a blank Rhino file open and in Grasshopper, I've got the file, 0010-cake-algorithm.gh. By definition, working in Grasshopper means you are modeling using algorithms. So, what are algorithms exactly? In a nutshell, an algorithm is a procedure used to solve a problem, answer a question, or perform a task, and a recipe is a great example of an algorithm. So, in my Grasshopper file, I've got a rough outline of a recipe or an algorithm for making a cake. So, you can see I start by preheating the oven, then I go on to mix the ingredients, I pour it into the pan, I bake it until it's finished, I remove it from the oven, and then I cool for 30 minutes. You'll see me use this format throughout this course, when I'm planning out my algorithms in Grasshopper. So, just keep in mind, this is a pretty loose structure…
