- In the age of the so-called Internet of Things it's pretty easy to find an existing 3D model of nearly any object you could hope to fabricate. Sites like turbosquid sell models at a variety of prices while you could download models from sites like thingiverse for free. Regardless of the source, it's always a good idea to check on some key measurements before you get started. Especially when you want the finished product to interface with existing manufactured parts. The basis for this model comes from Bob Allsopp who was nice enough to share his work with us. However, even with an automated tool like the CNC, shared files are sold and ready to MILL as is. Indeed, when my students in Chicago first cut this file without any modifications we noticed a few areas that could be improved.
