- [Instructor] In SAP, we often talk about two types of data, master data and transactional data. Let's take a look at the difference between these two types. Master data refers to all the information that deals with people, places, or objects in the system. Master data is the foundation that the SAP databases are built on. Without accurate master data, transactions cannot occur. Master data tends to be relatively static. Examples of master data in SAP include the information in business partner records. This is all the static data about our suppliers and our customers. Another example of master data is our employee master data with information like employee name and social security number. On the other hand, transactional data records the actions of a business. This type of data represents the bulk of day-to-day transactions. Transactional data is constantly changing.
