Activating or transferring the license

- Once you've completed installing SOLIDWORKS on your machine, there's one more step you have to go through to turn it on so to speak. And that's activation. So with each license of SOLIDWORKS you have so many activations available to you to use. So, let's go ahead and walk through this process. So right here I've got my SOLIDWORKS 2017 icon from our install earlier on. You can see here it's verifying the license, and then it pops into the SOLIDWORKS product activation tool. So with every seed of SOLIDWORKS you're given a period where you can just use the software freely before it deactivates. That'll basically give you that amount of time on each machine. Once you use it once on a machine you're not gonna be able to use it on that machine again. So you want to go ahead and activate it as soon as you can so you don't have to worry about this is the future. So right now it automatically goes to I want to activate my SOLIDWORKS product. We're gonna do that. If for some reason you don't, you can click on I wanna activate later and just finish, but we're gonna activate it. Stepping through, we go to the activate/deactivate section typically what I do is do it over the internet, you can also do it manually through email, but this takes time, somebody's actually gotta receive your email, verify your information and then activate your software from the other side. What you typically want to do is just automatically do it over the internet. This is the easiest way, you don't have to always put the same contact information, but they need a contact to reach out to in case there's a failure with this activation for some reason. Alright, so then I'm gonna go ahead and click next, and it's gonna reach out to the SOLIDWORKS server. Activate this product, and you can see here that we've got SOLIDWORKS premium and SOLIDWORKS professional with an activation that never expires, and that's pretty much it. It's a pretty simple process, the only other side of this is to deactivate. So let's say for example that I've done this install, because this is the first time, we're gonna have to accept a couple of things. Alright, so let's say that I've done this install and I did it erroneously or I'm moving to a new computer, or something happened and I want to deactivate my seed of SOLIDWORKS here and I want to move it to another machine. We can now deactivate the license as well. So just like we activated, we can deactivate the license. It's gonna pull up that same page, it's gonna do it automatically over the internet. We just click next and that's gonna take away our seat of SOLIDWORKS now. And obviously it cLoses it because we don't have access anymore. So pretty simple, and then again, if I want to reactivate it, I'm just gonna open it back up activate it, and you can see that it's reacTivated. It's a pretty simple process, the only thing that you really wanna make sure of is that you have a good internet connection so that that process doesn't stall out midway through, you know if you have a loose CAD 5 cable or ethernet port or something like that, make sure you've got a good wired connection or a solid wireless connection so that that process doesn't get interrupted midway through. If there is an error with activating your license you're gonna need to reach out to your local reseller or your SOLIDWORKS reseller and have them take care of that for you directly because your not gonna be able to rectify that on your own. So that's SOLIDWORKS activations and transfer of license.
