Components to a great script: Lights, camera, action!

- [Narrator] Okay so, at this point you've got the basics of the user interface for creating an animation and what the basic tools are to create the animation. So now we need to talk about how to plan for your animation and the way to plan for your animation is to write a great script. So these are some of the things you need to do to get ready before you even start getting into animation mode, getting into that motion study interface. First you wanna prepare your model and as you saw, you wanna create any named views for any poses or any close ups you want to include in your movie. Add materials to the components. Smooth edges with fillets, make it look really pretty. Add lights and scenery to create a mood or add personality. So basically, you wanna do as much front end work as you can before you even move into the animation so that your model's gonna look fabulous and eye catching. And then you wanna create a storyline. Write down an outline of what you're trying to convey. Think in terms of time. What do you want to happen when? What is the story do you want to tell? What are you trying to communicate with your animation? You don't wanna do an animation just because it looks cool, you wanna do an animation that communicates something, that you wanna tell the audience about your product. So, for example, here we have a little jack-in-the-box. We might wanna start the camera far away from the jack-in-the-box and then zoom in to get a close up of the jack-in-the-box. We want to crank the jack-in-the-box handle to show how it's gonna work. We want the jack-in-the-box to pop out and then a close up on the jack-in-the-box. So here I've created a little storyline, a little outline of what the motions I wanna do and what, the poses I want to have. So I want a zoom in close up, and maybe a zoom out, and a couple of motions. So that's my script.
