Creating a coordinate system - SOLIDWORKS Tutorial
From the course: SOLIDWORKS 2016 Essential Training
Creating a coordinate system
- SolidWorks gives us the ability to create our own, defined coordinate system. We might be using that if we want to find the center of mass based upon a certain point in a model. Maybe use a datum for some other type of analysis, and so on. To create it go ahead up to "Reference Geometry", click on the drop down, and click on "Coordinate System". I can then choose a point that I would like to be the center of my coordinate system. I am going to go ahead and choose this bottom corner here. You can see I already get this "X,Y,Z" in this corner and if I want to change that I can click on the direction I would like my X-Axis to travel in. If I want X to go in this direction, go ahead and click on X and make it point in that direction. If it is not going the right direction, go ahead and flip the arrow, so it goes in that direction. Same thing with Y, I can define which direction I would like Y to travel in. Which I want this one going that way. Notice now Z goes in the other direction…
