Creating offset geometry - SOLIDWORKS Tutorial
From the course: SOLIDWORKS 2016 Essential Training
Creating offset geometry
- The Offset Entities tool inside of SOLIDWORKS is a real time saver and it's pretty easy to use. So if I go ahead and open up this sketch one that I've already created. And you can see I've got Offset Entities. So if I wanted to create a shape that was just a perimeter, maybe like a fence, not a solid shape, I could use this Offset Entities here, click on that then choose line here. And notice that I have Select Chain turned on, so it just chooses the entire perimeter, and then it figures out how much to offset it by this value here. So if I click on .1, it's going to offset it. I can also reverse it to the inside and then click on OK. And just that quickly I've created all those lines, just a certain distance away from the other lines. If you need to adjust that, you can change this value right here, .2 and automatically everything gets updated. I can then go to Features and do an Extrude a Base or Boss. And you can see, I'm just creating a outline, or outside fence, of that shape…
