Creating swept shapes

- When you think about a swept profile, think about something that has a continuous cross-section. Something like a piece of tubing or wire or hose. I'm going to have one basic shape and then I'm going to extrude that shape along a certain path. That's what a swept boss or base does. In this example, I have what look like a kind of clothes hanger here. This would be an example of creating some type of a wire form. I'm going to be creating a shape and then dragging it throughout this entire shape here. I've drawn one sketch here on sketch #1. You can also see that I have sketch #2 that has the cross-section of a little rectangle. Now, I have a bunch of different options and something new in Solidworks 2016 is the ability to define a circular cross-section and have it automatically place it on our curve. To get started with the swept boss or base, let's go ahead and click on Swept Boss/Base. As far as my sketch profile, I can choose any sketch that lies along this path or even offset…
