Delete hole

- [Instructor] In this example, I'm going to show you how to use the delete hole command, but before we get there, I do want to point out that this is a pretty interesting model that you might want to review how we created it before getting into the delete hole command. So definitely grab your history bar, roll that back over here so you can see all the individual things that went into creating this shape. Go ahead and show and hide the different faces or sketches so you can see how we kind of went through the progression of building this. Creating different planes, we're going to show all these different things. Here, my surface extrude. This, for instance, can be a helper surface so we're going to go ahead and show that so I'm just extruding down these little helper surfaces here, I'll show those. All right, so that allows me to be tangent when I create my next boundary surface and notice the boundary surface here. Definitely jump into that boundary surface, take a look at how that was created, what these mean when it says normal to profile, normal to profile and how we're creating this and we did cover this in the boundary surface video as well, but this is a little bit more in-depth of how it was created and then we also did a mirror command, we also did a surface knit to bring things together. Then, of course, we did a surface trim, I trimmed away some holes and, of course, I can just hide these under other surfaces. So that's how we got to the point where we're at right now. I'm going to go ahead and hide everything else, because we don't need to see it for the actual delete hole. But there's a lot of great data inside of how this part was created so I definitely recommend reviewing it and make sure you're understanding how everything happens. All right, once we're here, we want to use that delete hole command. So for a lot of versions of SOLIDWORKS, delete hole was not included under the surfaces tool. So it was always there, it was just hidden and I don't know why they hid this very cool and powerful tool. But if you don't see it up here, we can always search for things up here. So I'd type in delete and it shows up right here, delete hole. You can search for it there or just add it to that toolbar, but either way, use that delete hole command, grab the delete hole tool. Come in here, just choose an edge of any hole in your surface, click okay, and it just makes it like look it was never there. It just takes it out. If you go across the lines, no big deal. Again, delete hole, grab an edge, it's going to fill that right in, no big issue. Delete hole, this one's kind of a funky hole with this little piece coming up here. Click on an edge and it gives you a preview that's like, ah, that's not going to work, right? Click on the green check mark, bam! No problem, it happens. Same thing over here, delete hole. Again it gives you this weird preview that makes you think it's not going to work, but at the end of the day, it just fills it in like nothing was a problem at all. Couple more just for fun, here they are. Bam, take you out. (indiscernible) we can do two at a time, or more. Oh! Yeah, all right. Delete hole, pretty cool command. It's been hidden in SOLIDWORKS for so long. I don't know why they did it but if you don't know how to use delete hole, that will save you a huge amount of time versus if you have a hole in your part and you're trying to fill that thing in with surfaces and patches and stuff like that, absolutely not. Delete it and it's all good.
