Downloading the software

- [Instructor] In this video, we're going to be downloading the HSMXpress software. Now, if you don't already know, HSMXpress is a free 2.5D cam package for SOLIDWORKS, and it works as a plugin to SOLIDWORKS, so you're going to be working in your native environment of SOLIDWORKS, and you're going to have all the available cam tools from HSM Xpress. To get started, just go ahead and fill out your name and so on down here, and download the software. Now, if you're not looking at HSMXpress and you're looking more for the HSMWorks package or the package for Inventor, you can head over to the Audodesk website and you can see over here, HSM is now part of this collection of tools from Autodesk, and you can subscribe to the full collection, or you can download the free trial. Also take a look over here. If you happen to be a student or an educator, you can get all the software for free for three years, so it's a pretty great deal. If you want to look into this a little bit further, you can click over here on the detail as far as what's included in the software, and you can see that you get HSM for Inventor, you get NASTRAN, you get all the AutoCAD packages, you get Fusion 360. Down here, you also get the full HSM package right here, which is the plugin for SOLIDWORKS, which has everything in it, as well as great software packages like 3D Studio Max and so much more, so it's a really great way to get a whole bunch of great software. Now, in this course, we're going to be focusing on the HSMXpress package, and HSMXpress and HSM are pretty much exactly the same. You just get more tools with the full HSMWorks package. But in this course, we're going to be focusing on the key tools for machining. We're really not going to be jumping into any kind of 3D programming. That's a little bit more advanced, so in this case, HSMXpress or HSM will work just fine, so either way, we'll be great. Go ahead and head over here and let's download the software now. All right, once HSMXpress has been downloaded, go ahead and click on it, and that should open up something like this. I'mma go ahead and extract it to my C drive, Autodesk. Click on OK. It's going to go ahead and auto-extract. Click on Yes, and here it is. We can install it right here. Go ahead and click on I accept the license agreement. Click on Next, and then go ahead and install. Okay, so now at this point we have HSMXpress 2018 installed, and we should go ahead and click on Finish, and then we should be able to open up SOLIDWORKS and see the add-ins. Let's go over here to SOLIDWORKS. I'm going to be using SOLIDWORKS 2017, but feel free to use 2018 or even 2016. Any of those will work in the software now. The exercise files will be a 2017 file, so I do definitely recommend. If you do have the opportunity to use 2017 or 2018, that would be recommended. Go ahead and click on this. Open up SOLIDWORKS, and it's asking us it would like to improve our experience. Go ahead and click on OK, and then go ahead and just let that open all the way up, and we can see here that we've got a basic part we can open up as a new part. Go ahead and use the LinkedIn template here, and now we should see a new tab here called CAM right here at the end, and that's going to have all of our HSM tools installed, so now we're all set and ready to jump in to HSMXpress.
