Explanation of file references

- [Instructor] In this video, I wanna show you how some simple file references work. So you can see here I've got the simplest of assemblies, two parts with one having a feature based on the other. If we look down on the feature tree, you can see that I've got a sketch for this cut, and after the sketch, you see a little dash and an arrow sign, and if you look at the cut feature, you can also see that little dash and an arrow sign, and what that means is there's an external reference from the part that's driving this sketch. So if we open up the sketch and zoom in, we can see that this circle is created by using the convert entity of this edge out here. So if I highlight this relation, we can see that this edge was used on convert entity and that's what projected down here and it has a relationship in between. So as we move around this rod into different positions, as we rebuild, it's gonna follow it. So that cut feature's gonna go with it. We've created an in-context feature between these two parts. Now if you go up and go to Find References, you also see that because this is an assembly, that it has a part and another part listed below it. So these are the file references for this assembly. But because we have a relationship that was created in this assembly, this sketch that has this arc on this plane, up here we see that part one now has a reference to the assembly because that's driving its feature. So this is just a really simple example of how file references can work. There are many other forms of file references, but you can see here this just simply connects a feature in one part to a feature in another part using a simple sketch feature.
