Server requirements and installation

- [Narrator] Let's take a moment to look through the requirements for SolidWorks PDM. As always, a good place to start is the SolidWorks.com website. Going under Support, and Hardware & System Requirements, we see the SolidWorks PDM system requirements. Now, you'll notice that the RAM disc space and processor don't have exorbidant requirements. If you compare this to the SolidWorks 2017 Desktop requirements, it's actually about half as much of the requirement that you need for your system. But the thing that you do want to consider is all of the data that you're going to be storing on this server or workstation that you're using as a server to host the archive. And when you build your vault over time, it can start out very small, but then as you gain new employees, take on new projects, it can grow very quickly from a small 10/20 gigabyte vault up to 500 gigs, or even a terabyte. So it's always good to make sure that you have hard discs installed, or SSDs, or a RAID system that has more than ample amounts of space for the foreseeable future. You want to try to reduce the amount of times that you move your vault once you've completed your instillation. This is going to help reduce the risk of losing data or having any kind of technical issues that affect your users.
