Understanding relationships

- SOLIDWORKS uses relationships in its sketches to define one sketch entity to another. Let's go ahead and fire up a new drawing, under Sketch, Start a Sketch, and I'm going to choose the top plane, or the front plane. And go ahead and start making a few lines. So in this case here, I'm going to draw a line here, I'm going to click once, I'm going to click again to place the line, and I'm just going to create a basic shape here. Now, that shape is really not defined, right? It's not a rectangle, it's just a bunch of lines connected together. I can click on anyone of these endpoints and I can drag that shape around, but they are connected together, which makes it nice. Now, if I want to turn this into a rectangle, I need to add a few things to it. I can add dimensions but, dimensions aren't really going to help me out at this point. Because the lines are just going in every direction. Now, to create a rectangle, I need to make maybe this line here, and this line up here, possibly…
