Upgrading or downgrading

- [Narrator] When deciding what version of Solidworks PDM is appropriate for your business, there are few things to consider. When starting with Solidworks PDM Standard, you always have the ability to upgrade later to Solidworks PDM Pro. This is a pretty simple process that goes through the Solidworks installation manager and activation wizard, and can be done pretty stress-free. But, if you start with Solidworks PDM Professional, it is not advertised that you can then downgrade it to Solidworks Standard. Solidworks does not endorse downgrading, but it is possible and can be done in extreme situations. I personally have worked with a Solidworks application engineer team at my local reseller to develop a method to do this. I will say though, it is not for the faint of heart. Mistakes can arise very easily and you are taking a risk that you'll damage the vaults that you've created in Solidworks PDM Professional. So if you're not sure which software package is going to be more appropriate for you or your budget in the long term, start with Solidworks PDM Standard, and then upgrade once you've found that you desire the other functionality of the full Solidworks PDM Pro suite. Now when following through this video series, I'd like everyone to note that we're going to start by going through the process to install Solidworks PDM Standard on both the server and the client machine. But at some point in this process, I'm going to do some modifications and then upgrade it to professional. So, if you find yourself jumping from video to video this might cause some confusion, but if you step through the setup information videos, from beginning to end, it'll be quite clear.
