Mechatronics design in SOLIDWORKS

- [Justin] SolidWorks is a global leader in engineering and design software used throughout numerous industries. SolidWorks tools are most commonly known for generating mechanical engineering designs, however, as electronics or electromechanical products become more and more prevalent, it is also important to understand the SolidWorks tools available to help with electromechanical and mechatronics designs as well. Hi, I'm Justin Flett and welcome to SolidWorks Mechatronics Design. I've been working with SolidWorks as a mechanical and electromechanical engineer and designer across numerous industries for over 10 years. In this course we'll take a look at the entire process of generating a simplified SolidWorks mechatronics project. First, we'll discuss and recap some of the basics of the software and how to generate simple mechanical parts for a simplified robotic arm design. We'll then look at some more advanced SolidWorks tools for plastics and casting design, such as draft, shell, ribs, and mounting boxes, which are all very commonly used within mechatronics designs for electromechanical enclosures or casings. Next we'll discuss some additional tools that may help us with mechatronics assemblies, such as using imported electronics models, such as motors or PCBs. We will also discuss one method for routing wires or cables within an electromechanical project. Finally, we'll learn how to generate some final outputs commonly used in industry, such as drawing files, step files, and PDF exports. By the end of this course we'll have a strong foundation of how SolidWorks can be used to generate, not only mechanical projects, but electromechanical projects as well. And we'll be able to quickly and efficiently generate some mechatronics project documents. Now, let's get started with SolidWorks Mechatronics Design.
