- [Instructor] If you wish, open up 05_03 to check out the sample data set. I'm going to go ahead and click over to the variable view so you can see the setup. Notice that the college major is a nominal variable. Nominal variables are used to name or label a series of values. If I click on the values for the college major, you'll see how I've set them up. One is equal to kinesiology, two to engineering, and three to finance. Salary is set up as a scale variable. That makes sense. It's a continuous dependent. There's another option for a variable. It's called ordinal. It's analogous to nominal, except ordinal scales provide information by the order of choices. I like to remember it as ordinal, order. Likert scales are a good example of ordinal scales, where one could be strongly disagree and five could be strongly agree. Let's switch over to the data view. There are two columns.
