- [Instructor] One key aspect of protecting your data is performing backups. Backing up your data can help to ensure recovery of information should a server fail, any number of reasons, and of course, backing up the data is only one half of the equation. Knowing how to properly restore that data is equally important. So why should you create a backup strategy in the first place? Well, a well-designed strategy helps to maximize data availability while also helping to minimize data loss, and it takes the data importance and recovery needs into consideration. So when we consider the data importance and recovery needs, we have to take a look at how important the data is and how much of it we are willing to sacrifice in the event that our backup is not frequent enough. So we take a look at the backup strategy. The backup part of it defines, first of all, the type and the frequency of backup that we create, as well as the nature and speed of the hardware.
