Configure trace events
- [Narrator] A SQL Server Trace gathers and logs information about server performance and other events defined in a trace definition. By default, a system trace is always running on SQL Server unless it's been disabled and other events can be monitored by creating customized definitions. To see what traces are currently running on a server, you can query sys dot traces. Let's first switch into the Wide World Importers Database, and then I'll run the select statement against the sys dot traces table. Here we see that I only have a single trace running. This is the default trace, and it currently has an ID of number one. We can see where SQL Server is storing this file if we have the full file path here. And I'm going to expand this open just a little bit. And I can see that the name of my trace is being saved as log underscore 29 dot T-R-C.
