Create and manage SQL Server Agent alerts

- [Instructor] SQL server can monitor the windows application event logs and the performance conditions on the server and respond to events through a system of alerts. When you define an alert, you're telling SQL server that you want it to take an action any time a specific event or condition occurs. This action can be to run a specific pre-defined job or send an email notification to an operator. To get started with alerts we can just expand the SQL server agent portion of the object explorer and then we'll come down to the alerts folder. Mine's currently empty, just right-click on it, and choose new alert. That'll open up the properties window for the new alert where we can get started by typing in the name. The name needs to be unique for this instance of SQL server and it can't be more than 128 characters in length.
