Creating maintenance plans to automate backups

- We've seen how to manually create a backup. However, creating backups on a schedule would likely be more useful and SQL Server does have a mechanism to fairly easily create a backups automatically. Inside of Management Studio, I'm gonna open up Management and one of the options underneath there is Maintenance Plans. If I open that up I see I have no maintenance plans created thus far, so I'll right-click on Maintenance Plans and say Maintenance Plan Wizard and this will take me through a wizard that will allow me to schedule some task including backups. The first page is just informational. I'll click Next. Then I'll need to give my maintenance plan a Name and Description; Name and Description don't effect the functionality. They're just to help me remember what this does. So I'm going to call it DailyBackup and at the bottom we see the option to define a schedule. To the right I'll hit Change and it pulls up an interface where we can set a schedule. We can set this to occur daily…
