It's not uncommon to codify these policies in notebooks or other physical documents that should be, but often aren't referred to regularly in an effort to maintain consistency throughout the organization. Policy-based management seeks to simplify that process. SQL servers policy-based management brings those offline paper best practices and standards into the server environment. It helps automate the enforcement of those system design policies.
