Manage failover

- Since each node in an availability group holds an identical copy of the database, any secondary node can become the primary node at a moment's notice. The process of choosing a new primary node is called a failover. In an always on availability group, there are three types of failovers that can occur. An automatic failover without data loss occurs when the primary and secondary replicas are set to the synchronous-commit mode, the secondary replica is currently synchronized, the failover mode is set to automatic, the primary replica goes offline unexpectedly, and the conditions of the flexible failover policy are met. We'll talk about the flexible failover policy in just a moment. The next type of failover is a planned manual failover, also without data loss. This is also simply called a manual failover.
