Using Performance Monitor

- In this section, I'd like to talk about using Performance Monitor to track and graph several counters related to Microsoft SQL Server 2014. So from the Start Menu I'm just gonna search for Performance Monitor, go ahead and open that up. Let's maximize this, and in the tree view on the left side I'll select Performance Monitor, and by default I get one counter, the precip processor time currently running on this computer. In the graph area, if you right click, the top option you'll get is Add Counters, and we'll see lots and lots and lots of counters in here. If we scroll up we should see several related to SQL Server, and these are stored alphabetically. In this list, however, it's not called SQL, it's called MS SQL, standing for Microsoft SQL, so you'll need to look under the letter "M" alphabetically. There's a number of groups of counters. First I'd like to look at General Statistics. So I'll open that up by clicking on the down arrow, and we'll see some of the different counters…
