- [Adam] Hello, my name is Adam Wilbert, and I'd like to take you through some of the new features found in SQL Server 2017. Now you might be thinking, didn't we just get a major release of SQL Server in 2016? And the answer of course is yes, we did. But starting with 2017, Microsoft is moving to a more rapid-release cadence with enhanced functionality and new features being rolled out annually instead of having to wait two or three years between versions. In this release, we can look forward to running SQL Server instances on Linux computers, and I'll show you how to get started by creating a Red Hat virtual machine in Microsoft Azure, as well as installing SQL Server on an Ubuntu machine. Also new for SQL Server 2017 is the addition of support for the Python scripting language, which joins R, added in 2016, to form a new machine-learning services package.
