The creative possibilities with presets

- There's something extremely ironic about editors being responsible for editing video and basically trimming down a project to a certain time but having very little of it all the time, as in usually the project was due yesterday. When adding on effects workflows and transition workflows and adding titles and motion graphics as part of that work, it can be very overwhelming. And one of the great things about Sapphire is your ability to use presets and have very good presets right off the bat, so that you can spend more time developing the story rather than having to worry about which effect you need to manipulate and utilize. And it's one of the best shining features of Sapphire. So let me give you an example of this. Just to follow along, you want to open up your Chapter1_2 project. That can be found in the project panel. To get there, you can actually go either to the assembly workspace, or you can press Shift+1, head over to the exercise folder, to the Chapter 1 folder and just double-click that sequence in order to open it up. Once that sequence is open, what we want to do is we want to head to the Effects tab. You can get to the Effects tab by pressing Shift+7. And under it I'm just going to do a search for "s_" And as we learned in the last movie, it will reveal all of the Sapphire effects in every single one of the categories. So here I am and I am curious about presets. In this particular case, I am curious about presets that are associated with the S_Sharpen effect. So if you select that effect and you drag it onto a clip, of course it applies a default sharpening. If we press Shift+5, we can reveal the effect controls or basically the parameters for that sharpen effect. Like any Sapphire effect, we want to start off by seeing if we can load a preset. And once we do, we go into the preset browser. Specifically we're going into the presets available for this sharpen effect that we applied. So if I single-click this Fine Art, we can see what that sharpen effect does on the clip. If I really like this, I could save this as a favorite by clicking on the star. And this will then be available in the Favorites tab under the sharpen effect any time that I go in. So just notice I can single-click any of these effects. Now I really did like that Fine Art 3 effect, so let me load that into Premiere Pro and you'll see that that gets just applied to the clip. And pretty much for almost every single Sapphire effect this load preset option is available and is just a great way to add effects, add really good looking effects right away without having to do too much work. Another great example of this, I'm actually going to select my sharpen effect that's here at the s_sharpen and delete it from the clip, and this time, just going to go back to one of my favorite effects, which we're going to explore over and over again throughout this course. Available in the lighting category is s_glow. I'll just drag that onto the clip and right here in effect controls, load a preset, and under All, just show you that there are 20 results of various glows. This is used so often, there's multiple starting points that you might want to utilize right away and load into your project for use. So this is one part of the presets that are available. Now you might have seen a sneak preview in the last movie where I actually add an effect onto a clip called s_effect. And that effect was the gateway to all the effects inside of the Sapphire library minus time-based effects. So I'm going to do that exactly with this next clip here, the cars clip here in my timeline. I'm going to go to the very top of the Effects tab and do a search for s_effect and under this I'm just going to go and load that onto the cars.jpeg clip. At first of course it's very deceiving. Doesn't change the clip in any way. But when I go to load the preset, like we saw in the previous movie here in the effects tab, there are a ton of categories for the majority of Sapphire effects in the library. You want to go and see all the presets available for pretty much everything in the library, this is where you want to go. And I can go into my s_distort blur, double-click and see the 13 results of various blurs or effects that have been produced as presets that I can view using my project. So there's a couple extra steps to build which make this even better. And one of those is specifically under s_effect is what I call builder effects. Now if I go to builder effects, the builder effects tab, these are multiple effects combined together to give you some sort of end result. I will say that there are some effects that are extremely utility-based and very useful that took a very long time to create, which could save you several minutes if not hours on your project. So giving you an example, if I go here and search presets, I'm just going to type in the word "tilt." Right here under builder presets I've got two different types of tilt shift effects. One's a simple tilt shift and the other is a more complicated tilt shift which gives you kind of a color look mixed in between a "toy" color look as they call it. If you just select this and you load that in to Premiere Pro you'll see that this s_effect is actually made of several effects combined together and all I had to do was just choose that preset. Just to take even a further look here in the load preset category, you can keep on searching and see other effects which create things that will completely obscure your video or you can use them for top for title designs such as Big Bokeh. There are certain effects in particular that are meant to be used specifically with titles that you could have or have created in Premiere Pro and anything that's new to Sapphire 11 in this particular release, if I go to the New tab, everything that's new, the 52 different presets or combined presets, mostly combined in Builder which are available for your workflows. And if you go throughout this entire category, if I just scroll down, we can see all of those effects ready for us to use. Some of them that will completely obscure our screen, but others that are just amazing stylistic effects that could in many cases enhance the projects that we're working with at hand. So s_effect. Your ultimate gateway to all of the presets for use to the individual effects. Not to mention builder effects where you stack on a glow mixed with a glint, potentially with some bokeh, and gives you an end result such as the tilt shift that you saw there. Several effects here available within Sapphire are presets to get you started and familiar with the multiplicity of creative opportunities available by using this plugin.
