Envelopes

- [Narrator] Now that we know the basics of how to choose and adjust both wave table and filter presets, it's time to begin discussing how real time movement can be added to a sound. Much in the way a musician shapes a note, envelopes allow you to change amplitude, timbre, or pitch between the time the key is pressed and released. So basic envelopes have four stages. Let's look at a graph. So when you press a key down, we start the attack stage. And that's the time it takes to go from silence to peak amplitude. That's followed by the decay stage, and that's the amount of time it takes to go from peak amplitude to a sustain level. Then the sustain level is the level that you maintain at until you get to the release stage. And when you release the key, the release stage would be the amount of time it takes to go from the sustain level back to silence. So, if you haven't already, let's go ahead and reinitialize Serum.
