What you should know
- [Instructor] I've designed this course assuming a basic working knowledge of Synthesis. If you need a refresher, check out Synth Programming Basics, by Scott Hirsch. In this course, we'll be using the virtual synthesizer, Serum, which is available for both Mac and PC operating systems, and I suggest that you install the latest version. During this course, I'll be working with Serum using Ableton, and you can use your DAW of choice. If you have access to the exercise files for this course, they download as a single compressed zip file. After unzipping the file, you'll find a folder named Learning Serum, like the one here on the desktop of my computer. The exercise files are organized with Ableton Live sessions and MIDI files in the Exercises folder and Serum presets in the Learning Serum Presets folder. In order to use the included Serum Presets, you'll need to copy the folder to one of the following locations. On a Mac, you'll want to put it in the Library, Audio, Presets, Xfer Records, Serum Presets, Presets, and User folder, and on Windows, in the Documents, Xfer, Serum Presets, Presets, User folder. If you don't have access to the exercise files, I suggest following along using your own files and projects. Now, let's get started with learning Serum.
