From the course: Learning PowerShell for Windows Server Administration

Welcome

- [Scott] Hi, I'm Scott Burrell. And I would like to welcome you to this course on PowerShell. In the October 2009 issue of TechNet Magazine, a senior consultant and Microsoft MVP wrote, it's safe to say that the single, most important skill Windows Administrator will need in the coming years is proficiency with Windows PowerShell. Well, it seems that those years have come. Not only are GUI administration tools on the decline, but the latest release of Windows server doesn't even include a desktop environment to run them. Come with me as we take a look at PowerShell starting with the basics. We're going to explore what PowerShell is. And what makes it so very different from the old-fashioned DOS command interpreter. And from other scripting environments. We're going to look at commandlets and modules from Microsoft and others. And we will take a look at creating custom commands of your own. If this is the single, most important skill for Windows Administrators, we should probably get started.
