- [Instructor] Each tool provides several paths to import and export data. Two almost universal methods is accepting or creating CSV and Excel files and representational state transfer, REST web services. Three basic goals of using these data paths are to perform a bulk load of foundation data at the outset of using the tool, updating records to match your environment or third, extracting data to perform analytics outside of the ITSM tool. Within that second goal of updating records to match your IT environment, there is a huge area of data acquisition, the discovery of configuration items and synchronizing updates to the CMDB that I'm going to sidestep. That area alone is large enough for a course all by itself. But we will touch on things outside of CMDB updating.
