- [Instructor] SharePoint's a great place to store documents but it's also a wonderful place to store data. The types of lists that we keep in Excel, in Access, and SQL Server can also be stored in SharePoint. In fact, SharePoint uses SQL Server for its document storage. There are, broadly speaking, two types of lists in SharePoint. One is a list that's created using a built-in application. An example of that would be the All Staff Calendar. There's a calendar application built in, we add that application to a site, and now we have access to a calendar and you might say wow, that doesn't look much like a list and yet it is. This is a calendar list but displayed as a calendar. The other type of list that we have is a custom list. That's a list that's created to display data that is unique or specific to your business' needs. An example of that is an inventory list. This particular list is a classic list.
