Dealing with exposure issues

- First off, let's talk about exposure. The simple problem is that the daylit scene you want to capture outside is generally going to be considerably brighter than the interior scene you're shooting. The daylight calls for an ND filter or a closed-down aperture, but the interior scene requires a wide-open aperture and definitely no ND filter. Your camera simply doesn't have enough exposure latitude to expose them both properly in the same shot. So to overcome this problem, we need to find a way to make the inside brighter or the outside darker. So let's look at a few simple ways we can do that depending on the scene. Probably the simplest way to adjust exposure for any scene with mixed interior and daylight is to first set your ideal exposure for the daylight or the scene outside because that's the hardest element to control.
