- Rental tip number four: Get the best rate. Rate policies vary somewhat from rental house to rental house, but you'll likely find that most have simple day rates for any given piece of gear. So typically gear would be renting for something like fifty dollars a day or two hundred dollars a day. And most rental houses will also offer a separate weekly rate that ends up being considerably cheaper than their daily rate because the weekly rate usually kicks in after just three or four days. So if you book a piece of gear for three days, you can usually keep it for an entire week for the same price. So the longer you rent, the cheaper it gets. Also, because most rental houses are closed on the weekends, a rental period of Friday to Monday morning will usually just count as a single day rental.
