Putting makeup on your subject
Makeup is one of the most important aspects of making somebody look better on camera. Beyond lighting and camera angles, I think it's one of the biggest things you can do, and you get a lot of bang for your buck when it comes to makeup. I have a saying that I like to tell my students, and that is that, "Makeup makes money." If you're talking about shooting corporate video, commercials, or anything else where it's important for the person on the other end of the camera to actually look good, or even better than they do in real life, well, makeup is one of the things that separates the amateurs from the pros, so I don't care how good your camera crew is, if you have all the same equipment and just as many skills, if you aren't applying makeup to the people in front of the camera, they're never going to look as good as the people on some of the big budget productions, and fortunately, makeup doesn't cost that much money.
