Using on-camera lights

One of the more valuable accessories you can have in your kit for lighting, especially if you do documentary and event work, is a camera light. A little portable battery operated LED unit is just the right thing to help you get just enough exposure, especially shooting at dusk and night scenes like this. Sometimes you're in an environment where you just need a little bit more light on your subject's face. Well, a camera light is perfect for distances of five to ten feet, depending on the particular unit you get. If you do get a camera light, I highly recommend that you get one that's dimmable. Now this broadcasty look like this, where it's really obvious that there's artificial light on me, is perfectly fine for wedding and event video, but let's say you wanted to get a little more natural documentary or narrative look out of the camera light.
