Working with editors after your shoot
- So as soon as you're done shooting, one of the first things you want to do is organize all of the media beforehand. So first, make sure you back up and keep at least one extra copy of all media for yourself before handing over the footage to an editor. I highly recommend making backup copies at the same time that you offload your media cards. Drag and drop files onto one hard drive, then drag and drop them onto another hard drive, or two hard drives, for extra safe-keeping. The editor's first big task is organizing the footage. So to make this job easier and perhaps save yourself some money, if you hired them on an hourly rate. You should separate footage into various folders for each project element you'll be giving them to work with. So I'm talking music, titles, folders for transcripts, background plates, re-shoots, interviews, b-roll, etc. The more you can organize it, the better.
