- After your personal safety I think there's one golden rule of sports no matter what you're shooting, and that's to get the shot. And getting the shot isn't just a matter of luck. It's more so a matter of being prepared with the right gear, coming with a plan of attack, and thinking through how the whole piece is going to come together in post production. Then making sure you're in the right place to capture some sports-moving magic. And if you're not shooting an actual competition and just working with friends or one-on-one with a cooperative athlete, remember people can't always land the same trick every time and can easily get tired or worn out after a few runs of a demanding sport. So it's important with many sports, especially extreme sports to always try to capture the action right the first time because that might be the only good run of the day or the first one ever in history.
