Harmonize the melody: Minor 7th, part 1

- Now that we've examined how we can harmonize a melody as a major seventh of a chord, let's see how we can make it the minor seventh. There are three seventh chords that make use of the minor seventh: the dominant seventh, (piano note plays) the minor seventh chord, (piano note plays) and the half diminished chord, or minus seventh flat five chord. (piano note plays) Now, let's take a look at the four note chords that occur naturally in every major scale. You can see that each one of these minor seventh chords at some point occurs naturally in the major scale. A minus seventh chord occurs on the second, third, and sixth degrees of the scale. In C major, that's the D minor chord, (piano note plays) the E minor chord, (piano note plays) and the A minor chord. (piano note plays) The dominant seventh only occurs in one place in the major scale, and that's on the fifth degree. In C major, that's a G7 chord. (piano note plays) And a half diminished chord occurs only on the seventh degree…
