- [Tutor] Just as we are able to shift a song's key center by a half step for effect, we can shift it by other intervals as well. You can hear dramatic modulations in pop songs, that are more than a half step in the Backstreet Boys' I Want It That Way, which modulates up a major 2nd, Frankie Valli's Can't Take My Eyes Off You, which modulates up a minor 3rd and Whitney Houston's How Will I Know, which modulates a minor 3rd down. Let me show you a couple of of ways we can modulate a song by other intervals, other than a half step by returning to our best friend, I'm Crying Because You Made Me.
