Re-harmonize the chorus as an outro

- There's one more way we can use an outro that I want to talk about and it's one that's left me scratching my head for years. It's an extremely unique technique that I have only seen used once, but it's so clever that I'm sure it's been used in other songs. Let me show you how we can create an outro by re-harmonizing our chorus. I talk about re-harmonizing a chorus in depth in my course 'The Songwriter's Toolkit: New Perspectives.' That said, this is a totally different way to use the technique. There is only one song I think of that re-harmonizes its chorus as an outro and the effect is dramatic. This technique is on display in Red Hot Chili Peppers's 'Under the Bridge.' The outro functions as a double chorus of sorts where the melody is transposed up but keeps the same exact shape and the harmony and lyrics change.
