- [Instructor] There's a lot of charts and graphs that help us convey meaning for our data, and there are also some types of charts and visuals that we should take caution when using. The first is pie charts. Pie charts show parts of a whole, but aren't accurate as a visual. Visually, it's difficult for us to perceive angles in order to discern accuracy. Pie charts require us to discern differences between pie slices. Looking at this example, the bigger slices look equal in size, and the smaller slices are also hard to discern the difference. Since pie charts aren't as accurate as other types of charts, they can create more confusion. And when there's more slices, a bar chart is a better choice. In this example, the bar chart is much clearer to see which month has the highest percentage. Another type of chart that's difficult to understand is a radial chart with concentric circles.
