Blocking and massing in 3D

- [Instructor] When we start conceptualizing the building in 3D, it's always a good idea to start simple. In this case, we're gonna start with massing the building. Now, a massing study is really just a very simple process that you can do in almost any 3D application. Now, I'm using SketchUp, but again, you can use almost any 3D application. Now, typically for a massing study, you're just trying to get a sense for the volumes of the building. So, you can literally just start by drawing some simple shapes. So, we can give these shapes some dimension, maybe something like say 20 feet by 40 feet or something like that. And then, we can pull those up. Let's say about nine feet, and now we've got this box. If we want, we can group that and then we can start to play with it. So, I can make a copy of this by holding down control and moving it. I can start to slide this around and get a sense for the volume. If I wanna go more complex, I can certainly go into these groups and add in some…
