Creating copies and an array

- [Instructor] There are a few different ways to create copies in SketchUp. The first way, using the Copy and Paste commands, will work much like other software programs. Using the Select tool, click on the geometry that you'd like to make a copy of. In this case, we're going to make a copy of this dining chair. Using the Edit drop-down menu, we're going to select Copy. You can also use the keyboard shortcuts, Command or Control + C. Now that it's copied, we're going to paste it. Edit, Paste, or Command or Control + V. It will be attached to our cursor and the Move tool will automatically activate. Click and release to set the copy down. The second way to make a copy is to use the Move tool. This is also helpful for making what is called an array. I'm going to go ahead and hit Delete for our copy, 'cause we're going to create that again. Activate the Select tool, Spacebar, and select the chair. Let's return to the Move tool, M for Move, and we're going to create a copy of this, using the Move tool. Right now, it'll just simply move it. But if we hit the Option key on a Mac or the Control key on a PC, when we click and release on it, it will create a copy in place. Let's set it down right next to it. Now we've created a copy of it, but we'd like to create the array. So, I'm going to type two X Enter, and it will create two copies of the original. I can override that by typing three X Enter, but now I can see that I've created one copy too many and the chairs don't fit under the table. So, I'm going to go back to two X Enter. It's also possible to create an array that will place the copies between the original and the first copy. Let's use the same actions. I'm going to delete these. Select, Delete. And I'm going to preselect this chair. Let's use the same actions, M for Move. Click your Option key, or your Control key on a PC, and click and release on the chair to create a copy. I'm going to set it down at the opposite end of the table. And now, instead of hitting two X, I'm going to type two, forward slash. The forward slash is right underneath the question mark on your keyboard. Then, Enter. And now I've created two copies of the original, placing the second copy between the original and the first copy. So, quick review, X will create copies after the first copy, and forward slash will create copies between the original and the first copy.
