- [Instructor] Sometimes we have a set of plans to work from and we'll need to transcribe those into SketchUp so that we can build a 3D model from those plans. A handy way to do that is to import those and trace over them to scale. To do this I like to use the plan view template because it starts in top view, which is what we're seeing here. And that's most helpful when you're starting in 2D, which is what we're doing. So first let's import the file. We'll go to file import. And for this exercise, we'll be using floor plan image. Now, if it's grayed out for you after you've downloaded it from the exercise files you can change the format to all supported image types and it should allow you to select it. We also want to make sure that we're using it as an image not as a texture or a new match photo. So be sure that uses image is checked. With floor plan image selected I'll go to import.
