Making components

- [Instructor] A component is much like a group, in that it provides a protective barrier around the geometry so that no other geometry will stick to it. But it also has other qualities. It acts as a bit of a supergroup. When geometry is made into a component any copy of that component you make will be changed each time you make changes to any of the component copies, or the original. To demonstrate this, let's make a staircase. If you haven't already watched the make and array video, you may want to review that first. In this model I've already drawn a rectangle that is four foot by one foot. And this will represent our stair tread. We're going to extrude this shape using the push/pull tool, P for push/pull, click and release and pull it up. We're going to type eight, Enter, to make it eight inches tall. Now I'm going to go back to my select tool, Spacebar, and I'm going to draw a selection box around this tread, so that I select all of the geometry. And instead of making it a group,…
