Push/Pull into 3D

- [Instructor] To transform a 2D shape into a 3D shape, we'll be using the push/pull tool. Lets start with these basic shapes and pull them up. Click on the push/pull tool in the toolbar above or the keyboard shortcut letter P. Click and release on a face and begin moving your cursor up or down. An important practice to get into is to click and release while doing this and not click and drag to extrude the shape. Then click and release to finish the action. If you would like to extrude a face to a measured height, click and release on the face and begin extruding in your desired direction. Then you can type the distance. I'm going to type 15 feet enter. We can also use SketchUp's inference engine by clicking and releasing on this and hovering over an adjacent face. Now this shape will be extruded to the exact same height as the shape next to it. We can also double-click on a face and it will remember the previous height that we've extruded a shape to. We can also use the push/pull tool to subtract from the shape. So I'm going to extrude this masked cylinder up to the same height as the previous one and I'm going to draw a circle in the middle of it. C for circle. And draw the circle on the top face and now I'm going to use the push/pull tool to subtract the shape from the cylinder. P for push/pull. Hover over this face. Click and release and move my cursor downward. I don't want to eyeball it, I just want to move my cursor to the endpoint of the edges down below so that the two faces meet and when they meet, the two faces will disappear and now I can see that I've subtracted a shape to create a pipe like shape. If you click and release on the round shape to extrude and you'd like to click on something else, you can always hit escape to let go of it and choose another face.
