The Select tool

- [Female] The selects tool, is arguably the most used tool in SketchUp. The icon to activate it is this arrow here, or you can use the keyboard shortcut, which is your space bar. And I highly recommend using your space bar since this tool is used so often. And it's the largest key on your keyboard. The select tool allows you to do just what the title says, select something. To select an entity or object in your model, you can simply click and release over that geometry. You can see that I'm clicking and releasing on different groups within my model. You can select faces, edges, as well as groups and components. If you select something that you didn't intend to, you can either click into a space with no geometry off to the side or onto a different intended entity or object. If you would like to select more than one entity or object at a time, you can use a few different methods. One of them is to hold down the shift key and select, by clicking on multiple objects or entities at once. So you can see I'm adding to my selection and I can also subtract from my selection by clicking on something that had been previously selected. Another method is to draw a selection box. I can click and drag from left to right, and this creates a solid selection box. This means that only objects or entities that are fully within that box will become selected. If I click and drag from right to left, I get a dashed line and this will mean that everything that is fully within the box or touching it will become selected. So even though the sofa over here, wasn't fully within that selection box, it became selected. So as a reminder, click and drag from left to right and only objects or entities that are fully within that box will become selected. Click and drag from right to left, dashed selection box and everything that is within it or touching the box will become selected. So, there's a few different methods for selecting things, but you will be using this tool a lot throughout your workflow.
