- [Instructor] Oftentimes one of the easiest ways to add a convincing look to a surface, is to apply a photograph of the real thing to the diffused slot of its material, which is just one of the uses that the maptype for this exercise can be put to. This being the bitmap node. In our scene then, we have a generic material applied to our tabletop that is currently giving it a plain gray appearance. As we really want to make this look as if it is made from wood, we clearly need to make good use of the bitmap node. Keeping in mind of course that whilst what we are doing here is being applied to the diffuse channel of our material, everything that we do in connection with the bitmap node could just as easily apply to using it in any of the other map slots on the material.
