What do I need to know?

- [Instructor] So what sort of stuff do you need to be aware of before you can tackle this lamp? The first thing is, I'm using the SketchUp Pro 2018 version. I'll be using the solid tools to create certain parts. so that's not necessarily an issue. All the exercise files, they are saved as 2018 version, so SketchUp, if you've got an earlier version of it, as a backward-compatible version, so that's something else to bear in mind. The other thing to say is that it's not necessarily for a complete and utter beginner, But that saying, if you've got some basic experience of the software you can certainly give it a go. piece by piece, that's also something you can do. and you don't necessarily need to follow these videos that I've created which gives you and then it explains how the whole thing goes together. All the dimensions that you would need to try to build the profiles, That's something that you could do should you want to. That's something that you could do should you want to. The final thing to point out, The final thing to point out, and that's to do with the dimensions. and that's to do with the dimensions. You might notice there are no imperial conversions for these dimensions, they're all in metric, for these dimensions, they're all in metric, simply because the conversion from imperial to metric simply because the conversion from imperial to metric and back again might mean that some of these things and back again might mean that some of these things don't fit together exactly, don't fit together exactly, and because this is a very precise piece of kit, and because this is a very precise piece of kit, everything does need to fit together exactly. everything does need to fit together exactly. So if you've not used the metric system before, So if you've not used the metric system before, then one of the first things we do is set up a template, then one of the first things we do is set up a template, it gets all of the units into the metric sets, it gets all of the units into the metric sets, the precision for the units as well, the precision for the units as well, so we shouldn't really have any problem at all. so we shouldn't really have any problem at all. What you can then do is just simply What you can then do is just simply convert back to the imperial units, convert back to the imperial units, and you'll get all the conversions, depending on what sort of level of precision you want. Okay, so that's really, in a nutshell, Okay, so that's really, in a nutshell, all you need to know about this. all you need to know about this. Just dive straight in, I would suggest, and have a go. I'll explain in the next video what is going to happen with the exercise files I've created, and then we can get started with this thing, the base.
